How to Eat Healthfully

When people hear the phrase "healthy eating" they usually think about losing weight. However, regardless of whether or not you want to lose weight, it's still important to make the right food choices. I'm not saying you should never eat sweets or that you can't ever have junk food, but you should really try to limit unhealthy and processed foods  and increase your intake of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, etc. I just want to share with you some of my tips on how to eat a well balanced diet and less unhealthy foods.
1. Five Servings of Fruits and Vegetables Daily

I know you've heard it plenty of times, but it's true! Your body needs these fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables provide lots of vitamins and minerals that your body needs to function. They also boost the health of you skin, hair, and nails. What you may not know is that some fruits and vegetables are actually negative Calories.

Yes, negative Calories! Your body burns more Calories eating and digesting these foods than what is actually in the food! Of course, you still have to eat them in moderation, but all the work your body does to digest these foods explains why you feel fuller faster when eating fruits and vegetables.
I've found that when I try to eat five servings of fruits and vegetables daily, I end up cutting out other unhealthy foods. I also feel much more agile and less sluggish. It makes it a lot easier to work out, too.
2. Make Sure Your Sweets are Actually Treats
Sometimes, all we feel like doing all day long is eating sugar, but treating that craving never actually satisfies you.
That's because sometimes your brain just tells you you want sugar when you don't even really want it anymore. Sugar is addictive. It has addictive properties on your brain. If you really want to enjoy your sweets, then don't have them that often! Sugar is supposed to be a treat! How is something a treat if you have it twice a day?! I know, I'm writing this and I myself don't always stick to it, but I suggest only having sweets 1-3 times a week. When you have them less often you will appreciate them more fully :)
3. Eat a Healthy Breakfast

Never, and I repeat, never skip breakfast! Breakfast is the most important meal of the day! It fuels you, gets your metabolism going, and keeps you from eating more later in the day. Get this! People who eat breakfast generally weigh less than those who don't. That's because when you skip breakfast, you are more likely to make poor eating choices throughout the rest of the day and your body has not had it's initial chance to start its metabolism. Also, when you get up, you usually haven't eaten for awhile. If you skip breakfast, that space between last night's dinner and this day's first meal gets even wider. Supposedly, when you go more than 12 hours without eating, your metabolism slows down by 40%. That explains why it's important to eat when you get up.
4. Drink Water

Water is important. Your body uses it to flush out toxins, dispense of waste, keep your skin moisturized, and so much more. You should try to make most of what you drink water. It's surprising how much sugar is in sports drinks and juices that are supposed to be good for you. If you have trouble remembering to drink, than carry a water bottle around with you.
5. Learn Healthy, New Recipes
Get motivated to eat healthfully by finding some new recipes you've never tried before! Here are some that I really want to try! To see more, follow my healthy recipes board on Pinterest.
My computer won't let me not underline the rest of that sentence until I drop down a line. Ugh. Computers assuming you want them to do things that you don't want them to do.

Vegan Chickpea Tacos
These look really good! I think the chickpeas would taste just as good as meat. You can use dairy free sour cream if you want, but since I'm not vegan, I'd probably use a low fat dairy kind.

Falafel is something I've always wanted to try but never actually have. Maybe I'll finally make some this week!

Oatmeal Energy Clusters
I think I may have tried this recipe before. Anyway, I've made something like it. This is a quick snack that will satisfy your sweet craving in a healthy way.

There you have it! I hope you'll consider my top five ways to eat healthier!

The Awesome Message of Agent Carter

So, I may have written this in a previous blog post, but one night last winter, I was searching for something to watch on the ABC website (well, mostly wishing there were more free Once Upon a Time episodes), and I came across Agent Carter. I thought the fact that the show was supposed to be in the forties was interesting, so I watched an episode. I loved it. After that I kept watching the mini series, and I am so, so glad that they are making a season 2! After Once Upon a Time, Agent Carter is my recommendation to anyone who wants a new, awesome show to watch!

Since this show takes place in 1946, women had really only started joining the workforce. As you can probably guess, Peggy Carter had some male coworkers who didn't really want her there and didn't trust her to do anything except order their lunch. However, she still completes her job and does other work on the side. I won't give away any spoilers :)

During the first season, Peggy goes through a really hard time as she believes her boyfriend, Captain America (Steve Rogers), to have died. (I've only seen one Avengers movie, so I don't know what really happens to him, but I heard he's not actually dead, just asleep or something like that.) Even so, she keeps going with her life, continuing Steve's work and trying to make him proud.

My favorite part is the end of the first season, after she says that she doesn't need anyone to tell her what she's worth because she knows it herself.

I love Peggy Carter :) She's definitely one of my favorite TV show characters. I can't wait for season 2! Does anyone else think there should be a romance between her and Sousa? I still wish she could be with Steve, but I think Sousa likes her. And I think Peggy could make room for another man in her life.

Fashion: Belle Once Upon a Time Inspiration

Hey! Sorry I haven't posted in a few days. It's really starting to catch up with me that the summer is coming to a close. I still have so much that I want to get done! I'm kind of excited for school to start, though, because I'll be a senior. Wow. Time flies by so fast! You're probably reading this to learn about Belle's fashion, not to listen to my musings on school, so without further ado, here's what I really sat down to write about.
So, if you haven't already figured it out, I'm quite hooked (pun intended) on Once Upon a Time. I can't wait until August 18th when season 4 comes out on DVD! I'm so excited for the whole Frozen thing! My Once Upon a Time board is my largest board on Pinterest, containing 363 pins, and I haven't even had a Pinterest for a full six months yet. I'm getting better about it though; I don't spend half as much time as I used to on that website :) Anyway, if you're looking for a new show to watch, I highly recommend Once Upon a Time. It has been, is, and always will be my favorite show.
I love Belle's fashion. She's in my list of the top 10 best dressed celebrities/TV show characters. That sounds like some really cheesy magazine poll. I guess I should say the top 10 celebrities/characters whose closets I love the most? They did a great job of melding the Disney Belle with a real person.
She has all the compassionate, heroic, sensitive, smart, and bookish characteristics of Disney's Belle embodied in a fully developed character part of the story of Once. I think her outfits really show her personality by blending her simplistic, bookish side with her courage and realism.
I love this dress. I think Belle's favorite color is supposed to be blue. The lacy polka dot design is really cute and it pairs wonderfully with that belt!
This outfit is different, but she makes it work. I like the red and blue together on her shirt.
Everything about this outfit goes together so nicely. Perfect for fall!
This is also really cute for fall.
I'm usually not much of a fan of yellow, but I really like this shirt.
I can't find a good picture of this coat, but I'm including it anyway since I like it so much.
This has to be one of my favorite Belle outfits. I love the polka doted crop top paired with the red jacket.
So, that's all for today! I don't think I can express how impatient I am for season 4.

Beauty: How to Have Healthy Hair

Healthy, shiny, lustrous hair. Something we all aspire for.
It's not always easy, though. Sometimes we buy suave shampoo because it's really cheap, we throw our tangled, wet hair into a messy bun, we go half a year without cutting it... I don't know anyone who isn't guilty of doing some of these things. It's impossible to go through life treating your hair perfectly, but you can make a few changes to your daily routine to boost the health of your hair.
1. Limit Direct Heat
This is a hard one for some people, but it's true. Straightening your hair is one of the easiest ways to make it frazzled and damaged. I'm not saying you should never straighten your hair, but do not do it every day. Save it for special occasions. When you do straighten it, use a heat protecting spray. Don't keep going over the same piece of hair with the flatiron, or that will really damage it. Make sure the heat isn't up too high. Curling irons aren't as damaging as flatirons, but still be careful. If you have time, let your hair air dry instead of blow drying it.
2. Use Good Quality Shampoo
I know, Biolage is expensive and VO5 is extremely cheap. However, it's worth it to make a little investment and buy a good quality shampoo. Hair has a pH ranging from 4.5 to 5.5, which means it's acidic (remember from chemistry class?). Drugstore shampoos can have a pH up to 9. Wow. I've never used it before, and it's pretty expensive, but from the research I've done, it looks like Nexxus is one of the best pH balanced shampoos.
3. Don't Go Too Long Without Cutting Your Hair
It's really hard when you want to grow your hair out. Especially if it's curly. But really, you shouldn't go more than three months without cutting your hair. I try to think of it this way. Is it really worth it the length that it is if there are split ends? The answer is usually no. Shorter healthy hair looks better than long hair with split ends. Even if you have some sort of magical hair with ends that don't get split, I would still recommend getting it cut a few times a year just to keep it healthy.

Those are my main tips! These are just a few extra things that I may have or have not tried that it won't hurt you to try! Wow. That was a terribly worded sentence. Anyway, here they are.
Natural Hair Mask
I know it sounds kind of gross, but from what I've heard, hair masks made out of natural ingredients can really help your hair. I found this recipe in the Better Homes and Gardens magazine.
1 ripe avacado
2 Tbsp plain yogurt
2 tsp honey
1. Blend ingredients in a shallow bowl to make a smooth paste.
2. Massage mixture into damp hair and then cover with a shower cap or old cotton towel.
3. Let mixture soak into hair for 20 minutes, then rinse and shampoo.
I might try this tonight!
Argan Oil
I've been using this in my hair since January. It doesn't really penetrate into the hair; it kind of just coats the top layer, but it can make a little bit of difference with frizziness. I have pretty curly hair, but I imagine you'd see more of an affect on straightish wavyish (I know those are not words) hair. However, I would not recommend it if you have fine, oily, pin-straight hair.
Scalp Massage
I haven't tried much of this, but I have a friend who says it works. Here are some directions. Link
I think I going to try to start doing this. I'll tell you how it works! (If I remember).
So these are my recommendations! Let me know how they work for you!

Fashion: Disneybounding!

Before I start writing about Disneybounding, just let me tell you, there is so much that goes into the college admissions process. I've only looked at one college so far, and I'm considering if I should retake my SAT's, and I have so many things to put into my resume. And on top of all of that, I have not done all of my summer homework. Okay, enough of that!
In case you don't know what Disneybounding is, it's when you use the inspiration of a Disney character to put together an outfit! It's awesome! I just want to share with you some great Disney outfits I've found on Pinterest.
Elsa seriously has one of the best Disney princess dresses. Sometimes I really wish it was possible to create a gorgeous dress out of ice! But, unfortunately, we live in a world where that would melt :( However, Elsa's ice dress serves as great fashion inspiration! There are so many Disneybounded (my computer keeps telling me that's not a word) Elsa outfits out there, so I'll just show you my favorite. Oh, and by the way, I'm going to post the links to Polyvore so you can see where to find all the pieces (that's what fashion designers call articles of clothing; I guess clothes can be a work of art!)

This dress is so pretty! I absolutely love the turquoise blue snowflake fabric!  Link
I also love Elsa's Frozen Fever look. This outfit is one of my favorites I've seen on Polyvore. I'm not always into such bright colors, but I'd wear this outfit. The shoes look so stylish. Link
Some people would say it's cheesy or something like that, but I love the idea of Disneybounding for prom. This dress is so beautiful. And that necklace! Link
I'm only posting one outfit for Wendy, but I just had to share it because the dress is so cute! And that darling Tinkerbell necklace... Link
Alice is definitely one of my Disney fashion icons. I love her simplistic style in the original movie and her dresses in the live action movie are gorgeous!
Lace dresses are so pretty, especially this one. The pearl jewelry adds just the right touch! Link
This dress is so professional and fun at the same time. A grown up Alice fashion inspiration! Disneybounding for work! Link
I've always loved Cinderella's dress, ever since I first saw the movie when I was probably about two years old. The new movie has increased my love for Cinderella's fashion even more.

The perfect thing to look dapper in at Disneyland! Most of this outfit is pretty affordable, too. Link
This dress is really interesting and pretty at the same time. It doesn't really look like Cinderella's dress, but it clearly has a Cinderella vibe to it. I can't find it's Polyvore link :(
This fairy godmother inspired dress is really cute, too. Again with the lace trend! Link
Beauty and the Beast
I've found a few different Beauty and the Beast outfits inspired by different characters that I really like.
This dress has such a beautiful color. It would be great for prom. Link
I want to someday walk into a store and see this dress there waiting for me. On sale too. In my size. I can't find the link to where it's from, though.
Who would have thought of making an outfit for the enchanted rose? I love it! This dress is so cute! Link
Such a cute, vintage inspired outfit. I should get some lilac heels.... We should all get lilac heels... Link
A simple, everyday but dressy look inspired by Belle. Perhaps the most fashionable Disney princess in my opinion. Link
Jane's style is so classy and sophisticated!
If Jane lived in the twenty first century, she would definitely wear this. Love the vintage inspired pieces! Link
Another adorable yellow dress! So classy. Link
Rapunzel's dress is so cute. You can't go wrong copying her carefree style. If only we could have the seventy feet of hair and Pascal to go with it all!
Everything in this outfit is so lovely and purple. I love color themes! If only I had those shoes. Link
Everything in this outfit reminds me of that spectacular lantern boat scene. I have a dream (pun intended) to someday have a boat ride on the water with those beautiful lanterns. Link
I hope I've inspired you to add some magic into your outfits! By the way, I'm thinking of starting a YouTube channel. Comment on what I should do videos about!

Fashion: Pinterest Favorites

So, being the Pinterest lover that I am, I have over 300 pins on my fashion board. That may not sound like a lot to some people, but I have only had a Pinterest account for five months. Today I just want to share with you some of my favorite pins on my fashion board so that you can get a sense of my personal style and find inspiration for developing your own taste!
I love dresses. They are my favorite thing to buy.

Wow. I guess I should also include some dresses that are not blue.

As you can see, I like fitted waists and dressier styles.

Okay, my phone sends me countless notifications that so and so has pinned this pin. I guess everyone just loves Coach bags.

So, I guess this post looks kind of disorganized and overwhelming. I think I'm getting better at making my posts aesthetically pleasing, though :) I did not provide the links to all of these things, but if you want to see where one of these things is from or buy it, all of these things are on my fashion board on Pinterest.
